I know that my 2003 calls for Dexron II/III as ability steering fluid, but i can't seem to discover them anymore. What do you all use? I saw Dexron Vi but information technology said not for power steering. Thanks! Ps: i accept some quondam bottles of Dexron Three from 10+ years agone but I'm not sure I want to use them. Just saw some other thread on Wal-Mart ATF. I'll end by tomorrow. I went to AutoZone today but all they have were Dexron VI. The local parts manager at Toyota told me to utilise 'power steering fluid' at any parts store, that is what they utilise. I used Prestone fluid. Only the regular fluid not the synthetic for Asian vehicles. I read for days on this. Blackworks - do yous think the Prestone will be ok? | | Answer With Quote | 04-29-2017, 04:45 PM | #7 | Member | | Join Date: Mar 2003 Location: Los Angeles, CA Age: 56 Posts: 184 | | Fellow member Bring together Appointment: Mar 2003 Location: Los Angeles, CA Age: 56 Posts: 184 | Thank yous all. I appreciate your assist. Just went to Wal-Mart and bought some Supertech that specifically said for vehicle requiring Dexron II and III and also the Castrol that's recommended hither. @ecally , I believe Toyota power steering needs Dexron II or III ATF, not power steering fluid. At to the lowest degree that's what my manual said. Thanks. Out of marvel, I googled the MSDS of both but i tin can't make sense of them beside that their components look different. Anyhow, if Toyota manual and the ability steering cap both said to use Dexron, I'thou not going to take chance to substitute with something else since Dexron is inexpensive and is available everywhere :-) Sent from my SM-T230NU using Tapatalk | | Reply With Quote | 04-xxx-2017, 01:39 AM | #13 | | Member | | Join Appointment: Nov 2016 Location: Sand Point, Idaho Posts: 263 | | Member Join Date: Nov 2016 Location: Sand Point, Idaho Posts: 263 | I drove a Gen 1 4Runner for 32 years and only used Dexron 2, III ATF. I never had a single problem with ability steering. IMHO, Dexron ATF is the simply thing to apply in Toyota power steering systems that have "utilize Dexron ATF" on the cap. As yous say it is cheap and easy to find and then I can't meet why anyone would use anything else. | | Reply With Quote | 05-01-2017, 09:15 AM | #14 | Member | | Join Date: Aug 2012 Location: PA Posts: 92 | | Member Bring together Date: Aug 2012 Location: PA Posts: 92 | I have spent endless hours on dissimilar forums trying to figure out if I can use 'power steering fluid' in my 4Runner. I flushed mine through this past Friday with Prestone Power Steering Fluid - not the type they brand for 'Asian Vehicles'. I called Prestone this morn and talked to someone at their 'Technical' hotline. He assured me their regular Prestone Power Steering Fluid is compatible with Dexron II or III. I'k not certain if it is any better, or worse, or the same as using Dexron. The reason I used it is that my 4Runner already had an amber fluid in the PS system. So unless Toyota was using a type of Dexron without a dye in information technology (to make it cerise) I figured information technology was another fluid. Also, the Parts Manager at my local Toyota dealer told me to but utilize 'ability steering fluid'. Simply time will tell, but at least for at present my power steering is prissy and smooth. Hopefully, it stays that way! | | Respond With Quote | 05-01-2017, 01:25 PM | #fifteen | Senior Member | | Bring together Date: December 2015 Location: Colorado Posts: one,180 Real Name: Ron | | Senior Member Bring together Date: December 2015 Location: Colorado Posts: 1,180 Real Name: Ron | Don't know about the 4th gens, just in my '94 regular power steering fluid will cause the seals in the pump to leak. I didn't know that until I tried information technology out of ignorance. Later on read the transmission, replaced fluid with Dexron II, and no more leaks. __________________ 2006 Sport Edition, V8, 206K miles, 2.5/ane.5" OME elevator, SPC adaptable UCA's, 255/75/17 BFG KO2's load range C @ 40psi.
